Pure Hospitality Solutions is
adding a unique photo sharing component into its online booking program,
Oveedia, a move the company anticipates will increase initial valuations of the
Central America-Caribbean online travel agency (OTA) by several million dollars
upon launch.
The integration is one of two
planned components Pure will use to increase site traffic and visitor
engagement time and optimize data sources that none of the ‘Big Four’ OTAs,
Expedia, Priceline, Orbitz and Travelocity, currently use.
“Traffic, traffic, traffic!
The photo share component that Oveedia will incorporate is called ‘Spotting,’
and companies like Demand Media have paid millions of dollars to acquire these
types of platforms because it’s all about traffic,” Melvin Pereira, president
and CEO of Pure, stated in the news release.
Pure’s ‘Hotel Spotting’
platform will be a database of high-quality pictures of hotels, captured by
‘spotting’ enthusiasts, largely for the benefit and enjoyment of travelers,
while serving a broader corporate purpose.
“This will provide us with
additional detailed data, at a very minimal cost to procure,” Pereira explains.
“It will also position our on-ground sales team to more efficiently create
package offerings for prospective member hotels; accelerating Oveedia’s growth.
The best part is, our photo share will provide an additional revenue source for
both PURE and the photographer, while offering an interactive social media
platform for travelers/visitors to enjoy … Fundamentally … this move is to greatly
increase the appeal and value proposition of the Oveedia online hospitality
booking platform.”
The CEO points to what he
calls a cannibalization in the U.S. online booking industry, noting the
importance of Oveedia’s position as a Central American OTA.
“U.S. online travel is
beginning to become a rough environment,” he said. “The Big Four have even
begun to cannibalize one another for U.S. survival; particularly as Google
aggressively encroaches the space. In contrast, Latin American online travel sales
are beginning to outpace the U.S. According to Barclays Capital, Latin America
will lead all world regions in online travel sales growth. With opportunities
opening up in Cuba to boot – almost monthly, Central American online travel
needs will soon become a pressing matter for any major OTA player, from any
part of the world.”
Pereira also explains how the
integration plays into the company’s acquisition intentions.
“Pure isn’t simply looking to
be a convenient ‘pick up’ for the Expedia types, but rather a ‘must have’ by
all, because of ‘our uniqueness and on-ground position,’” he said.
“Airliners.net sold for millions of dollars. Oveedia will be one of the first
OTA’s to incorporate this strategy. We already possess the photo spotting
technology and expect to roll it out with this year’s launch of Oveedia.
Shareholders should expect big things to happen at Pure! Big things. Bigger
valuations.”
