Edgy. Durable.
Economical. Weatherproof. Environmentally Friendly. These are just a handful of
words that describe the aesthetics and functionality of SGBX’s innovative
building systems. In a nutshell, SGBX takes heavy-gauge steel cargo shipping
containers and repurposes them into Safe Green Building Blocks (“SG Blocks”)
for commercial, industrial, and residential use.
“Repurposes” is
actually a bit of an understatement. Within the shipping industry, cargo
containers typically have a useful life of 10-15 years. Reclaiming used raw
steel is expensive and simply economically unfeasible. As a solution, SGBX has
developed a proprietary process called Value-Cycling™ conversion that takes
1/20th the amount of energy required to reprocess a comparable weight of steel,
increasing the lifespan of a container to about 100 years. The SG Blocks system
saves significant amounts of lumber and steel in addition to dramatic savings
in energy expenditures, all contributing to LEED certification.
The result of this
proprietary combination of engineering and architecture processes is containers
adaptable for a wide range of uses such as housing, office building, hotels,
schools, hospitals, and more. Once constructed, SG Blocks can be dismantled and
relocated if needed, also making them ideal for temporary or transitional
building construction.
From Starbuck’s
stores to modern housing, SGBX creates exceptionally durable and aesthetically
pleasing SG Blocks that meet and even exceed building code structural
requirements. With a steel-truss framing system, SG Blocks are highly corrosion
resistant; impervious to water and insect damage, all forms of mold and mildew;
and able to withstand fire, tornados, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Furthermore,
SGBX’s processes cut construction time by up to 40 percent, and reduce costs by
10-20 percent in urban locations and multi-story projects.
In addition to
relative services listed on its website, SGBX currently offers three core
products:
• Green Steel – Green Steel is the
structural frame of the building. All wall openings for windows and doors and
any reinforcement of the rails or corner posts is completed at SGBX’s depots.
The blocks are then shipped to the site for stacking and the roofing system,
and then turned over to the contractor for block completion.
• Partial Modular/Prefabrication –
Selected materials, finishes, and systems are installed at the depot and the
balance is completed at the site by the project contractor.
• Full Modular – SG Blocks delivers the
completed blocks to the desired site, where they are erected and completed with
all trim-out and closure pieces so that it is a turnkey, ready-to-occupy
building. For full modular, the project contractor completes the foundations
and site work in preparation for delivery.
SGBX has already has
already completed military and municipal projects, amassing a client list that
includes Schneider Electric, PUMA North America, Graybar, City of Jacksonville,
City of Santa Monica, City of Houston, USSOUTHCOM, and the U.S. Army at Fort
Bragg.
