Sibling Group Holdings’
newly acquired subsidiary, Urban Planet Mobile™ (“UPM”), has launched its first
distribution partnership in India through an agreement with India-based Trio
Tech, a mobile solutions company, and VMS India, a subsidiary of VMS
Communications.
VMS India and Trio Tech
will market UPM’s full suite of products to governments and corporate clients.
According to the news release, several proposals and partnerships are already
underway regarding UPM’s signature language learning service, Urban English®.
“We are thrilled to be
Urban Planet Mobile’s partner to distribute Urban English in India,” Rajesh
Kaul, CEO and co-founder of Trio Tech, stated in the news release. “We are
seeing incredible growth and demand for digital education solutions in India,
particularly on the mobile phone.”
India is a prime location
for UPM’s solutions. The country is one of the largest and fastest growing
mobile markets in the world and has 22 official languages. UPM’s Urban English
teaches English to speakers of more than 25 global languages, including Hindi
speakers and Bengali speakers, which are spoken by an estimated 400 million
people in India.
“Urban Planet Mobile’s
learning solutions are a key part of our growth strategy in India because of
interest from local, regional, and national governments, and the need to help
educate India’s citizens, especially in English,” says Divye Ratna Dixit,
managing director of VMS India. “We plan to promote not just Urban English but
also 333 Words and Blended Schools Network as well, based on the needs of the
client.”
Urban Planet Mobile was
recently featured in the Inter-American Development Bank’s 2014 report titled
“The Broadband Effect: Enhancing Market-based Solutions for the Base of the
Pyramid” for its success in distributing learning technology that has a social
impact on Base of Pyramid (BoP) populations around the world.
“We have seen the
transformative power that learning English can have on people’s lives in
countries throughout the world. In India, English is truly seen as a language
of empowerment. We are honored for the opportunity to work with governments to
empower their citizens, bringing English language learning to the Indian mobile
users,” said Brian OliverSmith, CEO of Sibling Group and co-founder of UPM.
