Alternative energy
developer P2 Solar is focused on the development of solar photovoltaic (PV)
power and small-hydro projects. For its solar PV initiatives, it is targeting
areas where abundant sunlight is present, renewable energy policies are
favorable, public and private sectors are striving for implementation of solar
PV measures into their energy consumption, and governments offer attractive
incentive programs for solar PV projects.
On its portfolio of
small-hydro projects, P2 Solar is aggressively working to develop 150MWp of
electricity-generating capacity in several phases over the next few years. As
it looks for opportunities to expand its portfolio, P2 Solar is developing its
current small-hydro projects which currently include the Langley Rooftop
Project in British Columbia; the Rajgarh Mini-Hydro Project in Punjab, India;
and the Tibba Mini-Hydro Project, also located in Punjab, India.
At the beginning of
May 2014, P2 Solar announced it had inked an implementation agreement with the
Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), Punjab state’s governing authority on
all renewable energy projects, for P2 Solar’s Rajgarh Mini-Hydro Project. P2
Solar has said it could bring another 35MWb of small-hydro projects in India
under contract.
At its head, P2
Solar is steered by a leadership team with 60 years of combined professional
experience. Heading P2 Solar is company CEO and Director Raj Gurm, who has over
20 years of experience garnered from founding, leading, and operating companies
across a range of sectors. Mr. Gurm is a graduate of the University of British
Columbia, from where he holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and at where he
engaged in post-graduate studies and research. He started his career in 1985 by
founding BR International Marketing, an importer and distributor of consumer
goods in Canada. In 1989, Mr. Gurm became an independent buyer for J. Jetterson
& Associates, a distributor of consumer goods to large chains stores in the
United States.
Approximately six
years later, Mr. Gurm was the founder of another company, Xanatel
Communications, a development stage mobile telecom company in Canada. Xanatel
Communications was later sold to a publically-traded company. Afterward, for
ten years he started and operated a manufacturer of chemical products, of which
some compounds were based on his own formulations. In 2008, Mr. Gurm turned to
P2 Solar for pursuit of solar PV project development opportunities in India.
The other team
members of P2 Solar leverage experience in many areas. These areas of
experience include: venture capital incubation for alternative energy projects
and India-based initiatives, asset evaluation in the energy and technology
sectors, energy industry-related risk management, electrical engineering,
technical engineering design, applications engineering, consulting, business
development, operational finessing, marketing, finance, financial reporting,
budgeting, accounting, sales development, and more.
