Roughly 12 million
people call Guinea home, a West African country sitting on an abundance of
natural resources but flanked with socio-economic and political challenges that
warrant its rank as 178th out of 187 countries in the United Nations
Development Programme’s Human Development Index. In particular, child
mortalities and maternal health, which are goals 4 and 5 of Guinea’s Millennium
Development Goals, are a significant concern for the country’s government.
In December 2013,
the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene announced an initiative focused
specifically on addressing these issues by delivering a high standard of
healthcare in Guinea and raising the level of education of its healthcare
workforce.
This strategy
involves the technology and services of Kallo, Inc., a New York-based company
developing a suite of solutions to provide efficient delivery of healthcare
services while further educating healthcare workers. The company’s range of
solutions utilizes telecommunication, technology and quality management to
ensure a seamless flow of information/data to provide patients with timely and
effective healthcare.
Under a $200 million
contract between Kallo and the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene of the
Republic of Guinea, Kallo will implement a variety of its healthcare delivery
solutions, including its MobileCare mobile clinics that are fully equipped with
the latest medical devices (enabling ability to perform on-site surgeries,
wound care and more) and congruent information systems. The company will also
implement its RuralCare, Hospital Information Systems, Telehealth Systems,
Pharmacy Information, disaster management, air and surface patient
transportation systems, and clinical training.
Over the course of
24 months, Kallo plans to unfurl its solutions in Guinea in a manner designed
to meet rural healthcare needs, increase the level of education of the nation’s
healthcare workforce, and accelerate the progress toward Guinea’s healthcare
Millennium Development Goals.
