Many of us take
daily vitamins, minerals, or other supplements as part of a healthy lifestyle
without knowing whether we’re taking a natural vitamin or a synthetic one made
to mimic the way natural vitamins act in our bodies.
Synthetic versions
of vitamins contain chemical compounds that cannot be used or recognized by the
body in the same way as the natural version, according to the Organic Consumers
Association. Many synthetic vitamins are devoid of transporters and co-factors
found in natural vitamins because they have been “isolated.” Lacking these
missing critical nutritional components, isolated vitamins are stored in the
body until it obtains or creates the nutrients necessary for the body to use or
excrete them. A staggering 95 percent of all vitamin supplements are isolated
and/or synthetic.
To identify
synthetic vitamins you need to be a label reader. The Organic Consumers
Association offers a guide to telling the difference between natural vitamins
and synthetic.
The words “100%
natural” can be misleading, as manufacturers can claim natural on their product
if at least 10 percent of the product comes from natural food sources. Instead,
look for the words “100% plant-based” or “100% animal based.”
Find the “food source”
list on the products label and look for yeast, fish, vegetable and citrus. If
the label does not contain natural food sources, then it’s synthetic. Also look
out for words that end in “ide” or “ate,” synthetic salt forms which are added
to supplements.
Thankfully, there
are many brands that only manufacture natural vitamins, taking the guesswork
and label reading out of it. Nutranomics has been making plant-based products
since it launched its own product line in 1997. The company’s line of natural vitamins
includes antioxidants, supplements for joint health, immune support, hormone
balance, immune support, detox, sleep, digestive enzymes, and more.
To ensure the
highest purity potency and quality, the company performs additional content
testing on all raw materials used to manufacture its products. Additionally the
company private labels and does custom manufacturing for several supplement
companies in national and international markets. All facilities used to produce
the gluten-free, non-GMO nutritional products are cGMP Compliant and FDA
approved.
In December 2013,
Nutranomics said it had assembled new sales teams trained and aligned with the
company’s near-term and long-term market expansion strategies for its line of
plant-based supplements.
