Green Technology Solutions, a rare earth minerals and precious metals exploration company, today said that it continues to pursue a possible partnership with Latin America’s Chilerecicla and that GTSO plans on using lessons learned from Chilerecicla’s to apply to its own operations in the United States.
Chilerecicla was founded in 2009 and opened the first e-waste recycling plant in Southern Chile. The company specializes in the direct removal of unwanted computers, electronics, and other devices from clients’ offices and takes the items for reuse and recycling rather than letting them collect in landfills.
GTSO wants to apply this business model and practices learned in North America as part of the company’s broader goal of competing alongside major international corporations striving for sustainable waste solutions.
According to the EPA, only about 25 percent of electronic waste is collected in the U.S., 38 percent of which comes from computers. GTSO said that the U.S. remains a “rich market for urban mining” and that it plans on taking advantage of the opportunity by leveraging the knowledge it has gleaned from Chilerecicla.
