Today, Unilife announced the development of the Unifill Assure, which is a customized device from the company’s Unifill platform of ready-to-fill (prefilled) syringes. Unifill syringes are designed to address unmet market needs for the injection of high-viscosity biologic drugs by patients with reduced dexterity.
The Unifill Assure optimizes Unilife’s ability to fully address, under one innovative and fully customizable platform, the needs of all prefilled biologics, drugs, and vaccines. The Unifill Assure includes the automatic, user-controlled needle retraction integrated within a glass barrel that is unique to the company’s Unifill platform, and the device additionally features an extended finger flange with a soft, rubberized nonslip grip and easy-to-press thumb button on a strengthened plunger. The combination of these proprietary features makes the Unifill Assure the most ergonomic and comfortable prefilled syringe that has ever been developed for patient self-injection of biologics.
Distribution of the initial supply of Unilife Assure to interested pharmaceutical companies was recently commenced, in support of drug compatibility programs and user studies with target patient groups involving prefilled syringes with needle sheath-based ancillary safety products. The Unifill Assure excelled across all metrics, including safety, aesthetics, ease of use, and convenience.
Features of the Unifill Assure include: ergonomic handling and easier self-injection for patients with reduced dexterity; optimal needlestick protection; automatic reuse prevention for compact, convenient disposal; visual distinction and strong preference and acceptance rates to differentiate injectable drugs; and compatibility with the standard filling and packaging process.
The production of Unilife’s Unifill platform of Syringes is currently underway at the company’s FDA-registered manufacturing facilities in York, Penn. Unilife Assure is available for evaluation by interested pharmaceutical companies.
