The $175,000 grant was awarded to enable APNT to test its EZKnowz™ sensor technology designed to detect pressure ulcers, commonly referred to as bed sores, which can lead to infections and amputation. The company reports that pressure ulcers result in costs of $1 billion to the U.S. healthcare system and $3 billion – $5 billion worldwide.
APNT will be partnering with UC Davis, a cross-disciplinary research and teaching institution, to address this important public health issue and test APNT’s technology to provide effective and timely treatment before the ulcers are fully emerged.
Early detection allows for earlier, more appropriate, and more cost effective treatment.
“This represents the first NIH grant we have received for application of our EZKnowz™ technology to healthcare applications,” Dr. Zvi Yaniv, president and chief operating officer of APNT, stated in the news release. “The health care area, including patient care and health management represent the largest target market for our technology and we are very excited to be aligned with UC Davis on this important project.”
