HydroPhi Technologies Group, Inc. (HPTG) Field Testing of On-Board, On-Demand Hydrogen System HydroPlant Expands To Mexico

HydroPhi Technologies, developers of a highly scalable fuel saving hydrogen-on-demand technology, which is distinct from all other commercially available mobile hydrogen platforms in that it forms pure hydrogen and oxygen from the electrolysis of water molecules, announced today that their HydroPlant™ fuel system testing in transit busses will expand to Guadalajara, as the biggest public transport bus owners association in Mexico, Rutas Unidas Federación de Transportistas Independientes de Mexico, moves to conduct field testing on the system this April.

One look at the company’s patent-pending HydroPlant design (using a Proton Exchange Membrane electrolyzer cell), which bundles all the necessary components into a single intelligent system for integration directly with a vehicle’s fuel supply, and it becomes strikingly clear that serious on-board hydrogen injection technology has finally arrived. Hydrogen injected into the air intake on a typical diesel or gasoline engine can produce incredible performance results, with fuel savings in the range of 13% to 27% for Class Five to Class Seven vehicles and as much as 10% to 17% in Class 8 rigs.

Initial testing of the HydroPlant in two busses by Rutas Unidas, in what is Jalisco’s largest city, and the 10th largest in all of Latin America by population (Guadalajara), is a solid benchmarking strategy and HPTG was also pleased to announce today that they have received the first purchase orders already from various Rutas affiliates for commercial system installations in Mexico City during the second half of 2014. Earlier pilot testing by Rutas in transit busses really laid the groundwork here, with demonstrations consistently coming back above 20% fuel savings during the four week pilot testing interval.

This latest field testing is a logical evolution of the process and the target market in Mexico City alone is extremely juicy for HPTG, with over 8k transit busses that could benefit from the system, 2.75k of which are associated with Rutas. Guadalajara is also quite large of course and is on par with a city like Monterrey, affording HPTG a second ripe and immediate target with some 2.5k transit busses (1.2k of which are associated with Rutas).

President of Rutas Unidas, José Escalante, was happy to note that while testing of the HydroPlant technology was still underway, results thus far have been very successful and the technology represents a very bright future for Rutas’ growing fleet. Escalante emphasized the importance of the technology in helping to also curb carbon emissions, before hammering home the savings and ameliorative effects this technology has on rising fuel costs and thus Rutas’ bottom line.

CEO of HPTG, Roger Slotkin, explained the significance of the deal in terms of future sales, as well as validation of the company’s underlying technology. Slotkin also argued that the high return-on-investment for individual fleet operators from adoption of this technology should become more and more readily apparent to target markets throughout all of Latin America as a result of the expanded field testing.

Slotkin is clearly determined not to rest on laurels in Mexico City or Guadalajara and indicated that HPTG’s expansion throughout the rich target markets of Latin America, which are already highly receptive to the technology, was already mapped out via the company’s internal planning initiatives. The commercial installations in Mexico City should really be something for investors to sink their teeth into and it would be wise to keep an ear to the ground for news and results from of such developments by HPTG.
