More than 1,700 members comprise the Washington Metropolitan Area Corporate Counsel Association (WMACCA), which was organized to encourage education and advancements in the corporate legal field.
XO Communications (OTCBB: XOHO) today announced that senior vice president and general counsel Simone Wu was named Outstanding Chief Legal Officer as part of WMACCA’s fourth annual Corporate Counsel Awards on the basis of her leadership and ability to execute all executive responsibilities effectively. Wu attributed her success and the company’s to the efforts of her entire legal team.
“I was honored to be chosen as this year’s Outstanding Chief Legal Officer by WMACCA,” Wu stated in the press release. “Throughout my tenure at XO Communications, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the industry’s best minds on both the legal and executive sides. This award is a reflection of the entire team’s hard work and dedication to make XO a leader in the telecommunications industry.”
In addition to Wu’s award, the entire XO Legal Department was a finalist in the Outstanding Small Legal Department category. The panel of lawyers, executives and other professionals that served as judges for the event recognized the XO legal team and their successful completion of a $780 million transaction that cleared the company’s debt.
