iTalk, a global provider of advanced communications and mobile broadband services, has acquired the vanity toll free telephone number 1-800-GET-VOIP, as well as five related domains: 1800GetVoIP.com, 1-800-Get-VoIP.com, 800GetVoIP.com, 800-Get-VoIP.com, and GetVoip.TV.

iTalk’s plan is to use 1-800-GET-VOIP to establish the industry’s first dominant brand name in residential and business VoIP services, leveraging several advantages vanity numbers (also known as phonewords) have over standard phone numbers. Advantages include increased memorability,which leads to increases in response rates to advertising; increased product association and brand building; reputation for customer satisfaction; expanded sales territory; and increased campaign life due to increased exposure and advertising.

In particular, the company notes an industry study that found that a specific 1-800 vanity number generated 14 times more calls than its numeric equivalent when used in identical radio spots. By combining the 1-800-GET-VOIP vanity number with the corresponding Internet domain names, iTalk has an opportunity to simultaneously reach both phone and Internet users.
