Advanced Cell Technology’s chief scientific officer Robert Lanza, M.D., has been ranked as one of the top four individuals featured on the “TOP 50 Global Stem Cell Influencers” list from Terrapinn’s life sciences division, TotalBiopharma (“World Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine Congress 2013”).
The 50 individuals were chosen as the result of a global survey considering thousands of votes from participants within the stem cell community. The winners were selected based on their individual career achievements such as leading-edge research and discovery, innovation, or lifetime dedication. List sponsor Terrapinn likens the list to “Forbes [Celebrity] 100, but for stem cells.”
Dr. Lanza is listed alongside the University of Wisconsin’s Dr. James Thomson, who was the first scientist to derive human embryonic stem cells, also recognized for his work with induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.
Also among the top four rankings is Kyoto University’s Dr. Shinya Yamanaka, a co-winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, selected for his work with iPS cells. Dr. Yamanaka was also a winner of the inaugural $3 million Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences earlier this year.
