The need for more advanced energy storage devices is becoming more and more apparent as alternative energy sources proliferate. The power generated by solar or other alternative energy sources needs to be stored efficiently. The old reliable lead-acid battery is still the battery of choice and provides the lion’s share of the work-load, but eventually other types of batteries will be needed. Until that time, lead-acid batteries will continue to hold their charge so industries and consumers can go about their business.
China Rita Power Co., a lead acid battery manufacturing company, works to manufacture and market lead acid batteries for- but not limited to- telecommunications, solar power and alternative power vehicles. The company’s customer base is international with approximately 66% of sales coming from companies outside of China.
In a certain sense, the company’s products could be classified as environmentally friendly, in that they enable the use of alternative transportation and less use of fossil fuel vehicles. This does not diminish the use of lead acid as a toxin, but it does point out the trade-offs that need to be made in the battery marketplace.
Although there may be ramifications from current economic conditions, the company is progressing with a solid product and line extension. Two new lead acid manufacturing lines have been brought online as have lead plate manufacturing capabilities. Relative to 2007 levels, production of the company’s lead-acid batteries will quadruple through the end of 2008.
How international economies may affect the company’s expansion plans is unknown, although apparent concentration of sales in Germany and other developing countries may indicate a slight reduction in expectations. Balance, however, may be found in the company’s large contracts with China Telecom, China Mobile and China network Ltd. Time will be an indicator.
From another point of view, lead acid batteries may begin to find increasing competition from other storage devices such as fly-wheel and nickel battery competitors. Until and if these competitors find more advanced solutions to power storage, China Rita and its lead-acid batteries appear to have a solid hold on energy storage for those markets it has chosen to serve.
