SPI Solar (SOPW) Adds to Twentieth Century’s Solar Sustainability

SPI Solar recently announced that the company has been contracted by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation to expand on the film company’s preexisting solar power network, previously constructed by SPI Solar in February of this year. This will add 230 kilowatts to the 160kW system already in place.

SPI Solar provides low-cost distributed generation and utility-scale solar energy development services, and produces photovoltaic energy solutions for business, government and utility customers, in association with LDK Solar. Together, the two companies broaden their production from silicon to system.

The new solar installation will be placed on the rooftops of Twentieth Century soundstages 26 and 29, reducing the studio’s operating costs. It will also play a part in Fox’s Global Energy Initiative. The original solar system put in place by SPI was a combination of SPI’s SkyMount racking system and more conventional racking, and was constructed on Twentieth Century’s Building 99.

Steve Kircher, CEO for SPI Solar, said, “We are very pleased that Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation has chosen us to install additional solar for their studio complex. They have been a great client and partner to work with, and it’s an honor to be invited back for an encore project.”

Hal Haenal, Senior Vice President of Fox Studio Operations, said, “This addition to our existing system more than doubles our onsite solar electricity generation capabilities and is a significant contribution to our ongoing sustainability initiative. We are very pleased with the results of the first system SPI developed for us and are happy to have them back to design and install the second phase of our onsite solar system.”
