BioMedical Technology Solution Holdings, Inc. announced today that it has strengthened its international foothold in the biomedical waste disposal arena with a new patent being issued from the Eurasian Patent Office to protect its technologies in Russia. The patent, titled “Heat Processing Systems, Apparatuses, and Methods for Collection and Disposal of Infectious and Medical Waste”, covers several system improvements since the original patent was issued in the United States (US Patent 5,972,291 issued October 26, 1999) and will be effective for twenty years from the original filing date in 2007.
BMTL operates through its wholly-owned subsidiary BioMedical Technology Solutions (“BMTS”) and is hoping to capitalize on the one-quarter of a million (250,000) tons of biomedical waste that is generated each year in Russia. These estimates of the waste actually may be a bit conservative as inhabitants of Romania generate 1.5 kg each per year of medical waste, but other European countries with more expansive health care systems generate 5 to 6 kg per person. With 142 million people in Russia, the number is apparently calculated on the 1.5 kg/inhabitant measure. If the number were actually calculated on the 6 kg/person figure that puts total medical waste generated per year to 1 million tons, which could greatly increase revenue potential.
Competition for on-site treatment is basically non-existent anywhere in the world, and things are not any the Russian market. Facilities typically pay for removal by service companies. According to BMTS, the Demolizer® II is not only far friendlier to the environment, but also offers a significant cost savings as compared to haul-away services.
