Positron Corp. commented yesterday on the new medical radiation bill passed into law in the State of California. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California last week signed a medical radiation protection bill (SB1237) into law. It paves the way for implementation of the first state law in the United States targeted at protecting patients from excessive radiation exposure received during CT scans and radiation therapy procedures.
The law’s passage comes on the heels of an overwhelming increase of reported incidents of patients being exposed to excess radiation both in California and throughout the U.S. SB 1237, which Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed without comment, will impose strict new procedures and reporting requirements to protect patients from medical radiation overdoses when it becomes effective July 1, 2012.
