China Natural Gas Inc., a natural gas retailer operating in Central China, offers retail compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas to consumers and businesses located in and around central Guangzhou Province. The company is considered the “tip of the sword” in China’s plan to address environmental concerns with CNG and piped natural gas in the region.
The company operates on three levels and should be able to capitalize on the government’s new outlook toward CNG and piped natural gas on each level it serves. The company’s CNG car conversion business will see increased revenues owing to modifications made by the government concerning registration of vehicles and modifications to engines. The company’s retail CNG outlets will benefit as more CNG cars hit the road, and the company’s piped natural gas division will benefit from the company’s goal to reach an estimated 50,000 residential and industrial customers in Tanygu and surrounding areas.
As with any advancement in China’s environmental policy, governmental support and recognition is a must. In the area of CNG and piped natural gas, there appears to be a growing level of support and recognition. The city of Dongguan recently posted a “Notice of Governmental Support for the Development of Natural Gas Vehicles” indicating that additional benefits would be forthcoming for the conversion of natural gas vehicles and retail filling stations. In this regard, subsidies have been granted for converted taxis and industrial vehicles as well as retail filling stations. China Natural Gas appears to be the sole beneficiary in this part of the province and should be capable of profiting further as CNG and piped natural gas gain traction.
