Solar energy is, perhaps, the first energy source that comes to mind when most people think of renewable sources of energy, but solar power is still a long way from being mainstream. It accounts for less than 1 percent of the world’s energy today. Sunrise Solar hopes to raise that percentage over the coming years; one contract at a time.
Yesterday the company announced that has entered into an initial agreement with the financial partners of a Brazil-based BioDiesel company to deliver solar power and heating to their first U.S. manufacturing facility.
Solar power has most traction in countries such as Germany, Spain, Cyprus and Japan, all of which offer incentives to improve the uptake of renewable energy sources as part of their implementation of a diversified energy policy. In Cyprus, more than 50 percent of hotels and 90 percent of homes have solar water heating. Brazil is the most energy self-sufficient nation in this hemisphere. The United States has trailed in the implementation of solar energy, mainly due to the cost, the amount of land required for large scale electricity production, and the intermittent nature of the energy source. But the U.S. must change its outlook on renewable energy sources like solar if we are to become energy independent and follow in the footsteps of countries like Brazil.
“We are excited to be part of this cutting edge, innovative project that will deliver new energy options and new jobs here in the U.S.,” said Mr. Eddie Austin, Chairman and CEO of Sunrise Solar Corp. “This company not only makes an effective alternative transportation fuel, they want the process by which these fuels are manufactured to be true green as well. We are pleased to be part of making ‘green fuels’ greener.”
