AVT, a developer of automated and self-service retail systems, has opened a new AVT Marley Coffee sales headquarters dedicated specifically to Marley Coffee (OTCQB: JAMN). AVT is the exclusive U.S. distributor of Marley Coffee branded kiosks and automated coffee stores.
The headquarters will focus on establishing new locations for AVT-owned Marley coffee systems as well as helping entrepreneurs and business owners obtain and operate their own Marley Coffee Automated Cafe. These automated “Marley Cafes” provide cups of freshly ground coffee at a lower cost than traditional coffee shops; some of the cafe kiosks even come with seating areas.
AVT anticipates putting 2,000 company-owned units into the market within the next two years, and has projected sales from these systems in excess of $24 million by year-end 2014.
Brent Toevs, CEO of Marley Coffee, responded to a recent opine from Netscape creator and noted venture capitalist Marc Andreessen that retail stores are on the verge of extinction and will be replaced by technology-based systems. As an example, Andreessen cited Blockbuster’s demise as a result of the establishment of Redbox movie rental kiosks.
“We don’t agree with Mr. Andreessen and think that retail will completely die off,” Toevs stated in the press release. “But we think that the bricks and mortar approach will rapidly retrench as new, more affordable delivery methods take their place.”
Shannon Illingworth, CEO of AVT, shared Toevs’ sentiment that more conventional retail measures will emerge.
“The Marley Cafes are the way of the future,” Illingworth said. “Why put up a large retail store like Starbucks – with all the associated overhead – when for a few thousand dollars, you can produce a better cup of Marley gourmet coffee, and place these self-service cafes virtually anywhere? We can put a beautiful Marley Coffee Automated Cafe almost everywhere that people congregate – even in places that could never hold a Starbucks, like office and apartment buildings, college campuses, and hotel lobbies, to name a few.”
