VIASPACE, Inc. (VSPC) Growing As Fast As Giant King Grass

The accomplishments of the past year have been many and important for renewable energy company VIASPACE, the proprietary holder of Giant King Grass (GKG), the highest yielding biomass crop in the world. Giant King Grass is the ideal dedicated renewable power plant feed stock, with a growth rate so high that it can generate electricity cheaper than solar and wind. As a growing crop, it absorbs enough carbon dioxide to balance the carbon released during burning in a power plant, thus providing a zero-carbon footprint. It is now recognized as a leading energy crop, and VIASPACE has already signed several contracts to supply GKG for bioenergy projects.

Among the year’s achievements for VIASPACE is their listing by Deloitte as one of the Top 10 Fastest Growing Clean Technology Companies, showing a growth rate of over 2,500 percent. It’s the result of several major developments by the company, including the signing of a 1,500 acre GKG supply contract with Tibbar Energy. Tibbar is planning to build a 6 megawatt biomass power plant in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, using GKG as the dedicated feedstock. VIASPACE also recently signed a GKG agreement in Myanmar, a country that has a growing need for electricity, plus has perfect weather for growing Giant King Grass.

In the U.S., Giant King Grass has received official approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Approval followed extensive testing, in which the USDA found GKG to be pathogen free and safe for use in the U.S. VIASPACE now has a GKG demonstration and propagation nursery in California that allows customers to see the grass up close, and which provides seedlings for U.S. and foreign customers. It’s a critical step in the company’s American strategy.
