Leading consulting firm Edgewater Technology announced that the Commonwealth Institute and Boston Business Journal have recognized it as one of the top women-led businesses in the state of Massachusetts.
The two nominating bodies hosted the third annual Top 100 Women-Led Businesses awards ceremony on Dec. 6 at the Sheraton Boston to honor and celebrate female business leaders in Massachusetts. Placing 10th on the list, Edgewater has moved up from a ranking of 13th on last year’s list. These annual rankings are based on total revenue. Edgewater’s ongoing growth was a factor in this improved ranking, and the company was invited to moderate a panel discussion on job creation strategies.
Edgewater chairman, president and CEO Shirley Singleton cofounded Edgewater in 1992 with David Clancey, her former partner. She started her career as a high school teacher and coach. Abruptly losing her job due to budget cuts, Singleton successfully transitioned into a computer programming career. A decade later, she cofounded Edgewater Technology, and the company has since grown from a privately held, five-person shop into a multimillion dollar, publicly traded technology management consulting firm with employees throughout the world.
Singleton has received numerous awards and recognitions during her tenure. In addition to this most recent 100 women-led business honor from the Commonwealth Institute and Boston Business Journal, she was also recently appointed to the Beverly, Mass., North Shore Medical Center’s board of trustees. She graduated from Northeastern University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in education, and she has also earned a Doctorate of Humane Letters from Endicott College.
