Mainland Resources, Inc., an independent oil and gas exploration, development and production company, today announced the addition of Dr. George V. Chilingar, PhD to its Advisory Board effective immediately. Dr. Chilingar will assist the company with a strategic partnership alliance and the supporting financing for their Buena Vista shale gas project in Mississippi. Dr. Chilingar is one of the world’s best known petroleum geologists and has extensive knowledge and experience in the oil and gas industry. He has been recognized for the discovery and extraction of oil reserves around the world.
Dr. Chilingar has been honored by several nations for his works in the field of the geology of petroleum reservoirs, petrophysics, sedimentology and petroleum engineering, including India, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Iran. One of his greatest contributions to the petroleum industry is his method for identifying oil-rich rock by analyzing the ratio of calcium to magnesium in core samples, which helped discover one of Iran’s largest oil fields.

Mainland’s Mississippi prospect is located along the Gulf Coast Salt basin in a region where Mainland believes there is an extension of the Haynesville shale similar to areas in Louisiana that have gained notoriety for recent discoveries. Their proprietary data on previous drilling of a deep well makes them convinced of its potential for major shale gas production. Mainland Resources had previously announced plans to merge with American Exploration which would give Mainland 92 percent of the 28 sections in the Buena Vista prospect which could be up to 500 BCF/section based on the cored interval but as of yet the deal has not be done.
