Location Based Technologies, Inc. today announced the availability of its PocketFinder GPS personal locator device. The device is currently available for purchase in the U.S. and Canada, exclusively at Apple retail stores. The device is able to work in conjunction with Apple’s iOS devices via free apps that have been released on the iOS App Store.
Currently, Location Based Technologies primarily produces the PocketFinder device. PocketFinder is described by LBT as rugged, waterproof, and highly portable, able to be carried in a pocket, purse or backpack. The device provides in real time the location of the device within ten feet. The device’s user interface is able to be accessed through any web browser or web-enabled phone.
The iOS apps available for the device offer most of the functionality of the web version, and are able to pinpoint the location of any PocketFinder devices the user specifies. The app allows for customization, where an email, text message or push notification is sent to the user when one of the selected PocketFinder devices enters or leaves a designated area. The device has a retail price of $149, which includes two months of service; ongoing service past the initial two months costs $12.95 per month.
