Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. (NWK) UX Series Receives ELIN Gateway Certification

Yesterday, Network Equipment Technologies announced that the company had successfully completed testing of its UX Series for receipt of an Emergency Location Identification Number (ELIN) gateway certification for Microsoft Lync 2010. ELIN gateway certification is for Enhanced 911 (E911), an improved 911 service that is faster and able to display caller information to the emergency responder. Certification testing was performed by WiPro (www.wipro.com) in their independent laboratories.

Located in Fremont, CA, Network Equipment Technologies is focused on delivering networking equipment intended for real-time communications. NET is also a provider of SIP trunking, enterprise mobility, and IP-based multi-service networking. NET has offices in the U.S., the U.K., France, the Middle East, China, Japan, and Australia.

Each US state has its own legislation for E911 compliance. In order to comply, the enterprise in question is required to provide accurate location information to 911 service providers, which will enable them to route the call to the nearest answering point, which will then in turn facilitate the handling of the emergency. If a service provider is unable to handle the Microsoft Lync-relayed information for E911 or is otherwise unable to comply with the E911 requirements, they need to employ an ELIN gateway that can deliver the necessary location information to the emergency responder. E911 services are specific to North America, but NET has designed the UX series to be used as an ELIN gateway on a global basis.

Kevin Isacks, chief development officer at NET, said, “We are proud to receive the ELIN gateway certification for Microsoft Lync 2010. As ELIN gateways, both UX1000 and UX2000 can translate the location information received from Lync endpoints to an ELIN. The translation can be granular to the floor level within a building or even to a zone within a floor, depending upon how the enterprise wants to define their ERLs.”
