Thwapr, Inc., a service for mobilizing branded video content, today announced that more than one million video views have been served over its platform. Thwapr’s mobile marketing solution uses a proprietary device detection technology so it can deliver videos and custom mobile pages to more than 300 types of devices across the United States and Canada. Being able to provide video links that work on non-Android or iOS platforms is an important part of Thwapr’s success as about 50% of the total mobile device market is still using feature phones.
“This milestone demonstrates a high success rate in user engagement as we note that people are watching mobile video multiple times. We also see brand partner video open rates as high as 90 percent. SMS drives open rates as users are comfortable with the format. For marketers, our platform is ideal because we charge for performance only — we send SMS messages for free as part of our agreements with them, and only charge for videos viewed — unlike other services that charge steep rates for bulk sending of MMS messages. We believe that paying for anything other than performance in this market climate is a waste of valuable marketing dollars,” said Bruce Goldstein, CEO of Thwapr in a press release.
Research indicates that by 2015 mobile video consumption will surpass 693 billion minutes. As companies struggle to figure out the best way to utilize mobile devices to brand products and services, Thwapr is finding success with a model that allows for the upload of already owned assets that can also be co-branded, have ad insertions, and integrate sponsorship opportunities. Additionally, the cost is based on performance, pay-per-view, with no upfront cost for sending the video images.
“To achieve greater engagement with mobile video, Thwapr puts brand managers in control of their own user experience by delivering ‘mini mobile Web sites’ that are fully customized to ensure a consistent brand look and feel. All Thwapr mobile landing pages include custom call call-to-action buttons to drive viewers to share via social media on Facebook or Twitter, view more content, download apps, purchase items now, make reservations, book tickets, etc,” stated Bruce Goldstein, CEO of Thwapr in the press release.
Thwapr uses Universal Video Links to mobilize channels, including SMS, QR codes, and email. On each customer’s webpage can be a Thwapr provided Share-to-Phone™ button that links videos and images to phones and tablets.
