U.S. Rare Earths, Inc., an Arkansas-based mineral exploration, mining and claims acquisition company, today announced the start of a drilling program in one of its new areas, the Powderhorn Properties, located in Gunnison County Colorado in search of rare earth elements. The drilling follows a geologic evaluation and grab samples that were executed this summer.
In a 2010 Critical Materials study conducted by the Department of Energy, Rare Earths Inc.’s holdings were found to have high concentrations of rare earth elements and the cerium-group rare earth elements that have critical national security applications as well commercial uses.
“U.S. Rare Earths’ analytical data suggests that its project areas are one of the few domestic resources that have significant heavy rare earths. The UREE properties offer some unique opportunities to investigate several unusual rare-earth mineral assemblages with the potential for multiple applications,” said James Hedrick, former U.S. Geological Survey rare earths commodity specialist and Chairman of UREE’s Advisory Board in a company press release.
U.S. Rare Earths, Inc. holds mining claims for rare earth elements in Colorado, Idaho and Montana totaling over 12,000 acres. Rare earth elements are critical to many emerging new and existing 21st applications, including hybrid cars and electric vehicles, cell phones and digital music players, computers, hard drives, microphones, fiber optics, lasers, global positioning systems, radar, sonar and advanced water treatment applications.
