Novatel Wireless, Inc. (NVTL) Introduces Spider Fleet Management and Vehicle Recovery Platform

Yesterday, Novatel Wireless, Inc. announced that their subsidiary Enfora, Inc. has released the Spider MT 2500 mobile tracking platform. This is Novatel’s first mobile tracking platform, and is intended to be used in vehicle fleets to track individual vehicles, taking advantage of 3-axis accelerometer and multi-GPIO technology.

San Diego company Novatel is a designer and developer of wireless 2G, 3G and 4G network solutions for distributors and retailers worldwide. Novatel manufactures the Intelligent Mobile Hotspot line of products, including software, USB modems, and embedded/smart M2M modules for internet communications and connectivity.

The Spider platform, designed to be employed across vehicle fleets, assists in vehicle recovery, insurance, and buy-here-pay-here systems. Using a FOTA enabled quad band GSM/GPRS device with internal antennas, 3-axis accelerometer, analog inputs and other GPIO, the Spider boasts ease of use combined with a robust feature set and low operating costs. The Spider is capable of reporting driver behavior, such as speeding, harsh braking, and idling.

“Through years of experience and detailed customer interactions Enfora has responded to the market demand for a high-performance, full-featured, low-cost device,” said Rob Hadley, CMO of Novatel Wireless. “We’re seeing increased demand for seamless and smart fleet management and vehicle recovery solutions from the enterprises and insurance companies. We’re excited to introduce the Spider MT 2500 solution, which has been designed specifically to easily and wirelessly enable a seamless connection from mobile assets to the enterprise very cost-effectively.”
