Lantis Laser, Inc. underwent formation to commercialize the application of novel technologies in the dental industry. The criteria for selected products include competitive edge, exclusivity, and large market potential. The Company’s dedication is to developing advanced dental products based on novel technologies that enable the dental professional to provide the highest standard of care to patients while ensuring an optimal experience. Lantis’ products are in development and cannot be sold until they obtain FDA clearance for marketing.
Headquartered in Denville, New Jersey, Lantis is a development stage company. They have exclusive rights to the applications in dentistry of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology under their exclusive license Agreements with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and The Regents of the University of California for Near Infrared Transillumination Technology (NIR).
OCT and NIR are synergistic, high resolution, light-based imaging modalities. They can detect decay and microstructural defects at an early stage. Unlike x-ray, they do not emit potentially harmful radiation. OCT was invented in the early 1990′s at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). OCT has been successfully commercialized in ophthalmology, cardiovascular imaging, and research continues in bio-medical applications including optical biopsies and cancer detection.
OCT is generally regarded as the 6th Imaging Modality. It is a new, light-based system with characteristics that make it ideally suited to bio-medical diagnostic imaging applications. OCT represents a major advancement in imaging in dentistry. This is because of its ability to provide detailed characterization of the dental microstructures, enabling the dentist to make earlier and more accurate diagnosis of oral disease, including decay and periodontal disease.
OCT is the first modality in dentistry capable of imaging both “hard” tissue (teeth) and “soft” tissue (gums) in the mouth at a very high resolution. The operator, using the hand-held scanner, captures cross-sectional images, or tomographic slices, at up to 3 mm deep into dental tissue. These cross-sectional images are then displayed individually in real-time on a chairside monitor. They can be saved to the patient digital file.
Yesterday, Lantis Laser Inc. announced that they signed a Letter of Intent to merge with TAG Minerals Inc. and their wholly-owned operating subsidiary TAG Minerals Zimbabwe (Private) Limited (TAG). The merger would be an all-stock transaction. Consequently, TAG would become Lantis Laser Inc.’s second wholly-owned and independently operating subsidiary. The merger with TAG, and its anticipated profitability, would enable Lantis Laser to utilize the cash flow, when generated, from Lantis Laser Inc. and TAG Minerals’ mining operations in Zimbabwe, Africa, for corporate development purposes.
