Marley Coffee, a sustainably grown, ethically farmed and artisan roasted gourmet coffee, today announced the addition of Raymond Pahlad as Vice President of Sales, Canada.
In his new role, Pahlad will be responsible for Canadian sales and marketing as Marley Coffee continues its international expansion. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Pahlad will spearhead sales and marketing programs across all channels, including retail distribution, foodservice and office coffee service. Prior to joining Marley Coffee, Pahlad was Director of Business Development at Canterbury Coffee Corporation, Western Canada’s first and largest premium coffee roaster. He managed Canterbury’s turnaround of its base grocery business, driving double-digit increases in both sales and volume over the last six years. While at Canterbury, Pahlad worked with Marley Coffee on the brand’s Canadian introduction.
“With Ray’s extensive background in consumer product management and his existing knowledge of our brand, we’re thrilled to have him join the Marley Coffee team,” said Brent Toevs, CEO, Marley Coffee. “We see tremendous growth opportunity in Canada and Ray knows the market as well as anyone in the industry. We’re grateful to our friends at Canterbury Coffee for supporting Ray’s decision to join us and we look forward to working with them on continued success.”
“I’ve always admired and enjoyed working with Ray as he understands the vision behind why we started Marley Coffee,” said Rohan Marley, chairman of Marley Coffee. “I’m really excited to see how he will help to shape the brand as we continue growing worldwide.”
In addition to his work with Marley Coffee, Pahlad was a key executive at Canterbury Coffee in developing go-to-market strategies for the ReSIProcate and Coastal Coffee brands. In his more than 25 years in grocery management and consumer packaged goods, Pahlad has helped lead purchasing, market analysis, forecasting, brand development, marketing, tasting and source tours. Pahlad has previously held positions with Overwaitea Food Group, Ocean Fisheries and Osram Sylvania.
“When you work with Rohan, you can see the passion for coffee and his family,” said Pahlad. “I appreciate Rohan’s dedication to his father’s dream and legacy, and I’m excited to help build on that dream by expanding the availability of Marley Coffee. I’m also a lifelong soccer player, so Marley Coffee’s support of Kicks for Cause and creating playable fields for youth in Jamaica is a tremendous bonus.”
In Canada, Marley Coffee currently offers six varieties of its Whole Bean coffee packed in 12oz. bags as well as Single-Serve Pods for home, office and foodservice. The company expects to expand distribution of its Marley Coffee Organic Ground line into Canada in 2012. Marley Coffee Organic Ground is certified to meet standards of USDA Organic and Canada Organic Biologique.
All Marley Coffee products live up to the Rastafari standards of ITAL, standing for all things Pure, True and Vital. A portion of all sales of Marley Coffee supports the Kicks for Cause Foundation. Started by Marley Coffee, Kicks for Cause aims to build playable soccer fields and soccer camps for children of coffee-producing communities in Jamaica.
