3DIcon Corporation, www.3dicon.net – a pioneer developer of volumetric, full-color, 360-degree, 3D imaging technology for interfaces, visualization and other applications, today revealed the signing of a Materials Transfer Agreement (MTA) with University of California regents through Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, under a DOE contract, to obtain Berkeley Lab-developed nanocrystals for use in its work.
Founder and CEO of TDCP, Martin Keating, commented on the Company’s completion and patenting of the rendering of 3D applications with the advent of the CSpace® system, and noted that software-layer advancements like Pixel Precision® represent tangible breakthroughs in 3D interface technology.
Keating pointed to aspects like color palette, resolution and element/image scalability as obvious next targets for fine tuning, and cited the nanocrystals being developed by Berkeley Lab as instrumental to that end.
In many ways, the successful development of the CSpace Volumetric Imaging System (static volume display technology) represents a paradigm shift for 3D interfaces. CSpace requires no viewing aids or special glasses and, having no moving parts, uses invisible, nano-sized up-conversion material dispersed into a field which is then struck by lasers and excited to emit visible light.
Pixel Precision is engineered to suit R&D efforts in DLP® technology from Texas Instruments, and makes the ideal companion to TI’s DMD Discovery™ line, allowing users to efficiently address and control every individual micro-mirror in the array. Without Pixel Precision, users must expend significant man-hours tediously programming the DMD Discovery Kits for precision control.
CSpace will have profound effects in medical imaging and surgical planning, but also has obvious applications in precision engineering and manufacturing/maintenance for aerospace concerns, military command and control, entertainment and any scanning application like baggage and cargo where high-volume precision is required.
The Company is currently engaged in talks with multiple potential partners, and will be aggressively pursuing commercialization of CSpace across the board for potential uses, assuring that demand for this technology exists in places where people aren’t even aware of how it can revolutionize their workflows.
Overlooking the Univ. of Calif., Berkeley campus, Berkeley Lab is an unclassified research facility employing roughly 4,300 (1k staff scientists, 1k undergrads/graduate students/postdoctoral fellows and some 1,500 technical and support), and hosting on average 2k additional participating guests each year.
