Universal Detection Technology (UNDT.OB) Successfully Tests New Sensor

Universal Detection Technology, developers of monitoring devices for bioterrorism/biohazard detection and other early-warning systems used by such high-profile clients such as Homeland Security and NASA, disclosed the details of recent testing of the Company’s new passive zone security sensor, developed via a partnership with industry leader Precision Sensors Instrumentation (PSI).

The new sensor system, branded “Scorpion”, was tested at an undisclosed airbase alongside leading sensor systems from other US and Russian developers, and has shown high-fidelity results as the most accurate non-line-of-sight- (NLOS-) based human detection system, and achieves these remarkable capabilities through the unique adaptation of highly sensitive seismic sensors which renders them ultra-sensitive positional sensors.

Using soldiers and light armored vehicles in the test to determine detection ranges, PSI has shown results indicating that all three sensors tested showed similar ground-vibration sensing via a rigid platform and sensing feet, proving the PSI sensor to be 20 times more accurate than the next leading device, the SM-24 ST Geophone, which is the most accurate seismic sensor commercially available today.

The tests validated a host of device capabilities such as: non-LOS functionality; rugged terrain use; over and underground intruder detection; advantages in underwater scenarios; and ultra-wide frequency dynamic range allowing for simultaneous sensing on everything from very slow to fast moving targets, as well as the capacity to differentiate between and to classify targets.

With projections for Homeland Security’s perimeter protection market indicating growth to $13.9B by 2011, according to the Homeland Security Research Corp. 2007-2011 U.S. Homeland Security (Government & Private Sectors) Market Outlook report, demand for the product in private and government sector applications should be robust.

Boeing Co. picked up a multibillion-dollar contract in 2006 to revamp border security for 6,000 miles of terrain, and delivered a proposal based on a design using a network of 1,800 towers that would act as sensor nodes, incorporating heat, motion and visual monitoring. The contract was awarded as part of the Secure Border Initiative or SBInet, designed to solve the national security threat technologically.

CEO of UNDT Jacques Tizabi was pleased to announce that the successful tests indicated the product is ready to push into the “homeland security market”, and stated his Company’s commitment to custom-fitting the instrument according to the specifications of particular customers.
