Railroad Tie Subcontract Worth $100,000 Awarded to Axion International (AXIH.OB)

Axion International is a leading structural solution provider of cost-effective alternative infrastructure and building products. The company’s proprietary technologies allow it to produce the world’s strongest recycled composite plastic industrial building products and railroad ties.

Developed in conjunction with Rutgers University Materials Science and Engineering Department, Axion’s proprietary Recycled Structural Composite material is inert and contains no toxic materials. It will not warp and is impervious to insect infestation. In addition, Axion’s products are completely recyclable at the end of their functional life.

The company announced today that it has been awarded a $100,000 railroad tie subcontract in support of 3D Global Solutions winning proposal with Beale Air Force base in northern California. The contract calls for the ties to be delivered by March 1, 2011 to the Beale Air Force base. The ties are to be used as a replacement for existing lines on the base.

3D Global Solutions is a service-disabled veteran-owned small business which provides consulting services to the federal government, including the military. In winning the contract, 3D Global Solutions navigated the necessary government channels to get Axion’s products in front of the contracting officer for possible use, and eventually resulted in an award.

Axion had already sold its innovative material to the US military for use in highly engineered bridges. Now that its recycled structural composite technology has been studied by various military organizations, including the Army Corps of Engineers, Axion believes it has a tremendous opportunity to expand its reach more with the military.
