Solar Power, Inc. (SOPW.OB) 398 Kilowatt Solar System Commissioning Celebrated by BLT Enterprises

Solar Power, www.solarpowerinc.net – the vertically integrated developer of solar solutions, which maximizes shareholder value by rigorously improving the Company’s entire value chain, from materials to post-installation asset management, joined BLT Enterprises yesterday to celebrate commissioning of the new 398 kW photovoltaic (PV) solar system.

Designed and constructed by SOPW, the new PV installation at BLT’s Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station (FRTS) in Fremont, California, is an ideal use of the Company’s sophisticated modules, mounting and racking systems.

With over 24k tons of recycling and disposal done in 2010 alone, the FRTS, which services Fremont, Newark and Union City, is an impressive case where BLT’s own sustainability agenda synchronizes perfectly with commercial PV to create one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s greenest businesses.

Leadership from the community and state of CA, including Andrae Macapinlac from State Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski’s office, City of Fremont Council member Anu Natarajan and City of Newark Council members Alan Nagy and Ana Apodaca, joined representatives from both companies at the dedication event, which was followed by a tour of the FRTS and system.

The innovative SOPW installation features a combination of rooftop racking and parking shade structures to create a beautiful, functional asset which will create some 587k kWh per year.

Chairman and CEO of SOPW, Stephen Kircher, was quite pleased to see the system online and generating savings for BLT and noted the striking synergy between BLT’s existing sustainability practices and the design philosophy of SOPW.

In year one alone the system will offset 3.1 acres of forested land and 447 metric tons of carbon, making completion of the project a milestone for Alameda County, as it is the first and only solar-powered material recovery and waste transfer facility available.

Assemblyman Wieckowski hailed the FRTS as a leader in environmental sustainability, offering a shining example of the possibilities for creating jobs via infrastructure modernization and thanked SOPW and BLT for helping to realize such a dream in California.

VP of BLT, Shawn Guttersen, asseverated, calling the introduction of this PV system a bold move forward for California’s communities which are served by the FRTS and projected a strong future for such developments within the state.
