WindTamer Corp. is a developer and manufacturer of a patented new wind turbine technology. The company announced today that it has retained Dr. Kenneth D. Visser as a technical consultant. Dr. Visser is the director of the Center for Sustainable Energy Systems and an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.
Dr. Visser completed his PhD at the University of Notre Dame. His post-doctoral work was performed under the auspices of the National Research Council at the NASA Langley Basic Aerodynamic Research Tunnel (BART). Dr. Visser was subsequently employed by Boeing (NYSE: BA) for five years and was involved in the development and design of two aircraft – the High Speed Civil Transport and the 767-400ER.
His work on the Boeing 767 resulted in a patent of a novel raked aerodynamic wingtip currently being flown on the Boeing 767-400ER. He also participated in the design of the keel fin and appendages for the America’s Cup Team 2000, America One, and worked with Fairchild Dornier Aircraft in Germany.
Dr. Visser’s present responsibilities include teaching the senior aircraft design and performance courses at Clarkson University. His research activities focus on applied aerodynamics and renewable energy concepts. His current projects include wind turbine design optimization, passive reduction of drag on ground vehicles and design methodologies for aircraft wingtips.
WindTimer is excited that Dr. Visser has agreed to devote a substantial amount of his time over the next 90 days to work directly with the company. He will be working with Adeeb Saba, WindTamer’s vice-president of operations and head of Research and Development, along with the rest of the company’s development team. They will collaborate to further optimize WindTamer’s wind turbine system utilizing an engineering-driven, analytical approach including full-scale wind tunnel testing.
