Silicon Motion Technology Corp. (SIMO) Share Price Less than Half the Company’s Book Value

Silicon Motion Technology Corp. is a fabless semiconductor company focused on designing, developing and marketing high performance, low-power semiconductor solutions for multimedia consumer electronics applications, such as mobile phones, digital cameras, notebook PCs, personal multimedia players, and personal navigation devices. Founded in 1995 in San Jose, California, Silicon Motion is currently headquartered in Taiwan.

Silicon Motion is recognized as a global leader in microcontrollers for NAND flash storage devices and silicon TV tuners for mobile phones. The company’s decade of expertise developing best-in class controller technologies includes extensive knowledge of proprietary error correction codes (ECC) and wear-leveling algorithms. According to the company, more flash memory cards sold worldwide use Silicon Motion controllers than any other supplier.

The stock is currently trading at a P/E Ratio (TTM) of 2.61, P/S of 0.40, and Price to Cash Flow of 2.18. The company has more than $58 million dollars in cash, with only $3.20 million in debt. Earlier last year the company completed a $40 million dollar stock repurchase program and initiated a second $40 million program. According to Reuters, 4 out of 7 analysts believe Silicon Motion is a “Strong Buy”, 2 believe the company will outperform the market, and 1 recommends investors to hold their shares.
