Microvision Inc., a leading innovator in ultra-miniature projection display technology, today announced its purchase of a patent portfolio from Motorola Inc. subsidiary Symbol Technologies Inc., which extends Microvision’s intellectual property reach into the pico projection and display technology arenas.
The company’s current projection display engine uses highly efficient laser light sources that create highly contrasted, bright images.
The portfolio purchased from Symbol Technologies is the largest, broadest and earliest filed laser pico projection and display portfolio, aside from Microvision’s. The portfolio includes various applications, including automotive head-up display, 3D projection, range finding, portable media devices, image capture and laptop applications.
Microvision said the products complement its current patent assets and brings the company’s total patent count to more than 500 patents, patents pending and licensed patents worldwide.
