Sharps Compliance Corp. provides cost-effective disposal solutions for medical waste, such as hypodermic needles, lancets and other objects used to puncture or cut the skin. The company yesterday announced a multi-year schedule contract by the General Services Administration of the U.S. Government (GSA), effective December 15, 2009.
The five-year GSA schedule offers an avenue for federal government agencies to purchase Sharps Compliance products and services, including the company’s Sharps Disposal By Mail System(R), Sharps Medical Waste Management System(TM) and RxTakeAway(TM) solutions.
Dr. Burton J. Kunik, chairman and CEO of Sharps, said being awarded the contract should boost awareness of the company’s products, and in turn, boost sales to other agencies. The company said that federal government agencies that purchase through GSA include the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Homeland Security (including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA), the Department of Health and Human Services (including the Public Health Service and indirectly to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention), the American Red Cross, and others.
“We believe our performance under our current contract with an agency of the U.S. government contributed to our ability to secure the GSA Schedule and DAPA agreement. These awards simplify the process for other government agencies to purchase our products and services. We believe the GSA and DAPA should enable us to increase our sales to other federal government agencies for all of our products, including the Sharps Disposal By Mail System(R), Sharps Medical Waste Management System(TM) and RxTakeAway(TM),” Dr. Kunik stated in the press release.
